"Renowned Musical Director Visits Onoway Jr/Sr High School"

The Onoway Honours Band had the privilege and honour of participating in a three-day clinic last week with internatinionally renowned musical director Dr. Robert Ambrose.

 

Dr. Robert Amborse is Director of Wind Studies and Ensembles, and Associate Director of the School of Music at Georgia State University.  He conducts the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Wind Orchestra and University Chamber Winds, coordinates the Master of Music in Wind Band Conducting degree program and oversees all aspects of the undergraduate music program.

 

The band first met Dr. Ambrose at the Provincial Band Festival in Red Deer last year.  At the time, Dr. Ambrose had shared with OHS Honours Band conductor, Mr. Tom Saumer, that he would love to visit and Onaway and wori with the band; "I was impressed with the band when I met htem at the Festival.  To have such a robust program running in a school where it is not part of the curricular program, but based solely on the interests and passion of the members, and the willingness of the school and division administration, and parental support, is really quite remarkable and a testament to both the students' and Mr. Saumer's commitment."
